Each year approximately 30 students in Year 6 belong to the Grounds
and Environment Committee. Their role is to organise activities and
fund-raising to support environmental projects at Avalon Public School.
SCHOOL PROJECTS
Rainwater Collection
The school has installed water tanks and children are conscious of
water conservation. The school actively seeks grants to continue this
program.
Composting
The school has an ongoing composting program. Students ar involved in
composting and recycling. Compost is used in all gardens in the school
and the children tend gardens with interest and cars.
Maintenance of Nura Djaroba
Nura Djaroba is a native environmental area within the school that
students enjoy for recreation. A dedicated team of volunteers tend to
the garden.
The Vegetable Garden
Various classes use a section of the garden to grow vegetables, which
they use for cooking activities.
Tree Day
Each year we celebrate Tree Day over a period of 2 weeks. During lunch
times, each class is involved in planting native trees and other plants
in the school grounds. We also participate in learning activities to
increase awareness of the importance of native flora.
Schools Clean up Australia Day
Every year Avalon School takes part in Schools Clean up Australia Day.
Each grade cleans a section of the school grounds.
