Sport is an important part of the Personal Development, Health and
Physical Education program.
Children at Avalon Public School take part in sporting activities from
Years K-6. The school provides an extensive sports program catering for
all levels of ability and interest.
Students, eight years and above, are encouraged to participate in
annual school carnivals for cross country, athletics and swimming.
Every child and staff member belongs to one of the four sport houses.
The sport houses are as follows:
| House | Mascot | Colour |
| Aringa | Kangaroo | Green |
| Warrigal | Wild Dog | Purple |
| Koonawarra | Swan | Yellow |
| Coolong | Possum | Blue |
PSSA Teams
In addition to regular school sport, the school participates in an inter-school competiton for about 30 weeks each year. Children from Years 4-6 are selected for these school representative teams on their ability and skill. The weekly competition includes the major games of rugby league, netball, rugby, soccer, eagle tag, cricket, vigaro and softball.
As well, some teams participate in NSW PSSA State Knockouts against schools from across NSW. The school has a very successful record in these competitions, especially in rugby, having won the Brian Palmer Shield on numerous occasions.
