Royal Avalon Show
Sunday 13th September, 9am - 3pm, Avalon Public School
The traditional country show meets the sea bringing loads of fun to Avalon Public School on Sunday September 13, 2009, from 9am to 3pm. Everyone is welcome to join the excitement on this great day out.
The ‘Beaut Ute Parade’ at 9am will herald the official opening of The Royal Avalon Show in the spirit of the traditional Grand Parade, mustering at the ‘Stop Kiss and Leave’ Zone on Old Barrenjoey Road, Avalon.
With over 840 students at Avalon Public School, visitors can expect good old-fashioned show attractions on a grand scale.
Preparations for the fete have been underway throughout the year. In class, students have planted carrots for the ‘Best Carrot’ competition and at home families are perfecting recipes for old fashioned treats including toffees and caramels. And the stash of prizes for Side Show Alley continues to grow with donations from the school community.
There’s a buzz around town as well, with local businesses and community members continuing to pledge generous support and fantastic prize donations for the big day.
There’s something for everyone at The Royal Avalon Show! Visitors from far and wide are invited to join the fun of the fair and try their hand at:
- The Show Cake Competition – enjoy good old-fashioned country rivalry as contestants battle it out for the Show Cake Winner. Visitors can buy a slice of their favourite entry.
- Hay Stacking Competition – only strength and endurance combined with strategic planning will win this one – dads, mums and anyone over sixteen can flex their biceps!
- The Beaut Ute Parade – the oldest, most outrageous, dirtiest and prettiest utes are on parade and up for popular judging.
- The Dogue Show – the scruffiest, tallest, poshest pooches on parade.
- Farm Animals – kids can pat a pig, a sheep or a cow.
- Sheep shearing – watch all the action involved in making wool.
- Side show Alley – traditional show games, prizes for all!
- Gourmet Treats - lots of great things to take home and eat on the day.
- Rides for the kids and the young at heart!
The Royal Avalon Show is a school community project and offers students, families and the broader community the chance to be proud of their achievements and to share the best they have to offer with visitors to the show. Proceeds from The Royal Avalon Show will contribute to ongoing improvements to Avalon Public School.
